Savoury Mince
Ingredients
- beef or lamb - 450 g / 18oz minced lean
- sunflower oil - 1 tablespoon
- (60g / 2½ oz) onion, finely chopped - 1 small
- clove garlic (optional) - 1 large
- flour - 25 g / 1oz
- water - 300ml / ½ pint
- black pepper - 1 teaspoon, ground
- tomatoes - ½ tin chopped (200g / 8oz)
- basil - 2 teaspoons, dried
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, heat the oil and fry the onion until it turns golden.
- Add in the mince and stir frequently. Fry briskly and drain the fat.
- Take the pan off the heat. Add the flour and half the water, drained tomatoes and the herbs.
- Cover and simmer for about an hour or until the mince is tender.
- As the mince thickens, add the rest of the liquid.
- Allow to cool.
